The meal plan page and shopping list

Click any meal plan's name to open its page. It has everything you need to run the plan: the totals, a calendar, the combined shopping list, and each recipe scaled to your group.

The header shows Total individuals, Total servings, the Plan dates, the number of Recipes, your Plan notes and the Dietary restrictions in group.

  • Edit (top right) reopens the plan in the editor.
  • The export buttons on the right download the plan. See Exporting shopping lists and meal plans (PDF, Word and Excel).
  • If you have several kitchen locations, choose one under Please choose correct location before view. Stores, departments, notes and prices change to match that location.
  • The bar with Calendar, Shopping list and Recipes jumps to each section. Collapse all folds the sections away.

Calendar Planning

The calendar shows which meals are served each day. Hover over a day to see the meals, and click it to jump to those recipes. Each day also has an Export to PDF link, which downloads that day's shopping list and recipes on their own. That's handy for daily shops or for giving each cook just their day.

Shopping / Packing List

This is the combined shopping list for the whole plan. Every recipe is scaled to your group, and the same ingredients are added together.

Column What it shows
Qty and Unit The total to buy

Store Where you buy it
Meal(s) Which recipes use it. The number in brackets shows how much each recipe needs.
Notes Your ingredient notes
US / Metric The same amount in US and metric units

Filter the list with Store and Department to see just what you need for one shop. These filters only change what's on screen. To filter an export, see Exporting shopping lists and meal plans (PDF, Word and Excel).

Ticks are saved with the plan, so anyone on your team sees the same progress. They also appear in that plan's PDF, Word and Excel exports.

How the list is worked out

  • Each recipe is scaled from its own servings to the number of individuals eating it, adjusted for appetite sizes.
  • Amounts of the same ingredient are combined. Convertible units (for example ounces and pounds) are added together.
  • Substitutes are applied for the people with each dietary restriction, if substitutes are on.
  • Rounding is applied to counted items, if you've turned it on. See Ingredient rounding.
  • The list is sorted by store, then department. You can change this in Settings → Export settings.

Recipes details

At the bottom, every recipe in the plan appears with its date, meal, number served, categories, tags, instructions, and ingredients scaled to the group. Print this section for your cooks.
