Ingredient rounding

Available on Personal, Professional and Enterprise plans, and during your trial.

Scaling a recipe for 48 people can produce amounts like "7.3 cans" or "2.6 heads of lettuce". Rounding turns these into amounts you can actually buy.

  1. Turn on Ingredient rounding in Settings. Click Configure and choose where it applies: Round quantities on shopping lists, Round quantities on recipe details, or both.
  2. On Ingredients, open Manage on a counted ingredient (each, can, package…) and choose a Round option:
    • No: keep exact amounts
    • Up: always round up, for example 7.3 → 8
    • Down: always round down
    • Nearest Whole: round to the nearest whole number

Choosing where rounding applies in Settings

Rounding only applies to ingredients counted in whole units. Weights and volumes are never rounded. Each recipe's amount is rounded before amounts are added together, and an amount that would round to zero becomes 1.

If the rounded amounts don't work the way you'd like on your shopping list, open Settings → Ingredient rounding → Configure and untick Round quantities on shopping lists.
