Recipe Tag Management in Settings

Tags are your own labels for your recipes — gluten freefreezer mealkids love itthanksgiving. You add them to a recipe as you build it, and then use them to find the right recipes fast, whether you are searching your recipe list or putting together a meal plan.

After a while, tag lists get untidy. The same idea creeps in under three different names, a typo sticks around, and labels you no longer use crowd the list. The tag manager is where you clean all that up — and anything you change there updates on your recipes right away.

Open the tag manager

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Look for Recipe tags.
  3. Click Manage.

You will see all of your tags, listed A to Z, with the number of recipes on each one.

Got a long list? Start typing in the Filter tags... box to jump to the one you want.

There is nothing to save as you go. Each change is saved for you the moment you make it.

Fix a tag's name

Click the tag's name, type the correct one, and press Enter.

That is it — the new name is on every recipe that uses the tag. If gluetn free made it onto forty recipes, you fix it once here rather than opening forty recipes.

Combine tags that mean the same thing

If gluten freegluten-free and GF are all floating around, you can bring them together into one.

Find the tag you want to retire and open the Merge into... list on its row. Pick the tag you want to keep. We will show you how many recipes are on each one so you can check you have them the right way round, then click Merge.

Every recipe from the old tag moves across to the one you kept, and the duplicate is gone.

A shortcut: if you rename a tag and give it a name another tag already has, we will offer to merge the two for you. That is usually exactly what you were trying to do.

Choose which recipes have a tag

Click the number beside any tag to see the recipes that use it.

From here you can:

  • Take the tag off a recipe — click the × beside the recipe name. Only the label comes off. Your recipe stays exactly as it is.
  • Put the tag on another recipe — type part of a recipe name in the search box, click Search, and choose it from the results.

Click the number again to close the list.

This is a quick way to catch the ones you missed. Open freezer meal, search for the soups and casseroles you know belong there, and add them all in one go.

Add a new tag

Type a name in the box at the bottom and click Add tag.

Then open your new tag and add a recipe or two to it. Tags live on your recipes, so a tag that is not on anything will not stay in your list.

Remove a tag you no longer want

Click Del beside the tag. We will check with you first, and tell you how many recipes it is about to come off.

The label is removed from those recipes and disappears from your filters. Your recipes are safe — they simply lose that one label.

Good to know

  • Take the last recipe off a tag and the tag goes too. Tags only exist while recipes are using them.
  • Tags are shown in lower case, so Gluten Free and gluten free never split into two separate labels.
  • If other people share your account, you share one set of tags. A tidy-up by one of you is a tidy-up for everyone.
  • Renaming, merging and deleting happen straight away and cannot be undone with an undo button. If you merge two tags and change your mind, add the tag back and put the right recipes on it.

Why it is worth a tidy-up

Your tags do a lot of quiet work. A clean list means better suggestions when you tag a new recipe, a shorter and clearer filter on your recipe list, and less hunting when you are choosing recipes for a meal plan.

Five minutes here tends to save a lot of scrolling later.
