Makes 4 servings
  • oatmeal flakes, old fashioned rolled oats 3.0 cup(s)
  • nuts, seeds, or both 1.0 cup(s)
  • salt 1.0 pinch(es)
  • cinnamon 1.0 pinch(es)
  • Sugar, brown 0.33 cup(s)
  • Butter / Margarine 5.0 tablespoon(s)
  • Figs, Apricots, Raisins, or other Dried Fruit 8.0 cup(s)

Recipe Instructions

Instructions:
1. Melt butter or heat oil in fry pan on medium. Don't burn butter!
2. Add uncooked oats and stir to coat with butter. Add salt to taste (if nuts/seeds aren't salted).
3. Sprinkle in brown sugar (and cinnamon if desired) over top.
4. Cook oats until golden, stirring.
5. Take off heat, then add fruit and nuts.

Note:
- Can serve with milk or yogurt, or nut milk or vegan yogurt.
- Can also make in the front country or before leaving for a trip. This is an alternative to store bought granola.
- If nuts and seeds are untoasted, you can fry them with the oatmeal.
- Make gluten free using gluten free oats.
- Make nut free by only adding fruit.
- Make dairy free and vegan by using oil instead of butter.
