PRE-TRIP PREP: Mix dry topping ingredients (oats, flour, brown sugar, nuts) at home; store in a zip-lock bag. Keep butter cold in cooler.
ON THE RIVER: Prepare 22 briquettes (10 below, 12 on top). Toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice; spread in greased Dutch oven. Cut cold butter into oat-flour-sugar topping with fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs; spread over apples. Cover and bake 35–40 minutes until topping is golden and apples are bubbly. Serve with whipped cream.
